Money Rules the World

Why should a commodity bear so much power? Why is the status of humans determined by the amount of money in their bank accounts? Every now and then I have observed and studied the behaviour of humans around money. Money might not be everything but it solves a lot of problems.

Have you visited a typical Nigerian market? Have you seen how a typical market woman ties her money in her wrapper and then wears back the wrapper just to keep this commodity safe. It is fascinating to watch but that is their own understanding of keeping their everyday sales safe till they get home to count them. To be able to steal from them, you would have to naked them first and I’m sure no armed robber would want to go through that stress. Is that the best way to keep money? definitely no, because you are rumpling the money note and maybe tearing it in the process, but that is the market women for you in Nigeria.

Money defines class in a nation. When people drag first class citizen or last class citizen of a nation, they are indirectly telling you how much they have in their bank accounts. In all countries, having money can save you from a lot of hell. You would be mobile at least. You would not have to be a passenger in the Nigerian buses and taxis. I think the taxis are the worst. Do you know that people sit four at the back of the taxi car? Imagine how uncomfortable that is, well, if you are unfortunate to not have your own car, that would be your everyday struggle till you upgrade your class, and of course you need money to upgrade. A typical okada man (tricycle man) is trying to make ends meet with his okada. Most of them are not even educated and you are not sure how to communicate with them if you don’t speak their dialect. So you see, money determines a lot. The okada man probably didn’t go to school because there was no money to school and now he has grown to be uneducated.

Money makes and breaks relationships. You would be able to see the cinema with your significant order or travel the world with him, with money. Will you eat love? Money pays the bills and ensures that your children are educated. Money ensures that you would comfortably live in a house without being sent packing by your landlord, or better still build your own house. I know a relationship that ended because they are both not financially ready to move the relationship to the next level, so they need to get their finances right.

Money might just be a paper printed by the Central Bank, but the power it carries can make and break rules. You know, there are people that are leveraging on the fact that they have money. The way you are treated because you have money is quite different from the way you are treated because you don’t have money. Shouldn’t all humans be treated equally regardless of their status? Definitely yes, but you would have to reshape some mindsets to be able to achieve that. Nothing functions without money. Even to eat, you need money.

Money really is a king. In this life, try to have money. maybe not in excess but at least try to have money, it will save you from so many disrespects. Try to have money that will solve your problems at least. I think not having money has a way of getting one depressed and emotionally unstable. You should bear in mind that “sit here” is quite different from “find a place and sit”.

To upgrade in your career, you need money for extra courses. To expand your business, you need money. To travel round the globe, you need money. So many things revolve around money. Now it is seeming like the reason why most people wake up and leave their houses each day is to make more money. Are we really living for money? A rich man does not get satisfied, he keeps working and working to increase his net worth. the more you get, the more you would want money in order to maintain your lifestyle.

I go out each day and I ask myself, why is this person out so early? And the answer is so simple, he is out to fetch more money. Money does rule the world and there is no argument about it. Starting from a market woman to the president of a country, we all need this commodity called money. Not having money creates nuisances in the society. We hear of kidnappers, armed robbers, prostitutes and yahoo boys today because they need money. Needing money does not justify their actions but people will definitely want a faster way of making money.

Money is quite a king in its own way.
