A Mindset Change Is All You Need

I am yet to see a successful person whose mindset does not align with what he/she has achieved. I prefer to picture where I am going before Ii set off on my journey. I will tell you a little story about me. If you have been following my blogs judiciously, you must know that I studied medicine and surgery in Russia. I did not just study in Russia, I also studied in Russian language which not so many people on earth would want to embark on. People prefer studying in a language that they are conversant with. I did not have much of a choice because my scholarship agreement stated that I must learn in Russian language. Well, I learnt the language for a year before commencing my studies. It was hectic in the beginning but I wanted to graduate as one of the best students, hence, I worked towards achieving that. I had a mindset of reaching my goals and that gave me the courage to keep going no matter how difficult the journey was. To actualize a goal is not an easy pill to swallow; you would encounter difficult situations that would make you want to quit but with the right mindset, you will get to the finish line. I graduated as the best student from Rostov State Medical University in Russia and my mindset played a major role in it.

One of the things that can weigh us down is failure. Some persons do not know how to pick up broken pieces after a major downfall and I must urge you to reshape that. Failure is a part of life; do not let few failures be the reason you quit, rather see them as reasons to learn, build and become better. So many successful persons today have failed more than they have succeeded. The man that invented the light bulb, Thomas Edison failed 1000 times before successfully creating a working bulb. From my personal experience as a medical student, I failed anatomy weekly tests many times before I discovered the right way to study anatomy and eventually had grade A in my anatomy exam. In the process of reshaping your mindset, you must accept that you might fail a few times before getting to where you ought to be, and knowing how to deal with failures should be the first thing you ought to work on.

If you want to be someone in life, you have to figure out who you want to be and then work towards it. If you want to be the CEO of a company, take the necessary courses, learn how to run a business and learn how to act as a CEO. If you want to be a medical doctor someday, go through medical school, persevere no matter how hard those exams can be and train in a hospital to be the best that you can be. Whatever you want to be starts from the mind. If you can dream it, then there is a chance that you can achieve it.

Be yourself’s cheerleader. The most important validation that you need is the one that comes from you. I usually tell myself that I can do it and so should you. Sometimes we are surrounded by people who do not believe in our abilities and that is why you need to know yourself more than any other person in the room. Cheer yourself up even in difficult situations, be confident and go for what you want. Apply for that job, apply to that school that you admire so much, walk up to Elon Musk and ask him the questions you have for him, approach people with confidence and don’t let fear get the best version of you. You are stronger than you think, you just need to tell yourself more often.

Changing your mindset is a gradual process, it is not something that happens overnight. We have been accustomed to some ideas and believes that it would take conscious unlearning to get rid of them, therefore you must not beat yourself up when things don’t change drastically. Changing your mindset is like quitting an addiction, it takes a while, so you should start small and then finish big. Start by setting small goals that would lead to setting bigger goals. Let’s say you want to become rich, you can start by following rich people online, attending seminars on how to grow wealth, asking questions and learning from wealthy people, then you can strategize and plan bigger goals on how to eventually become wealthy. If you want to loose weight, you can start with little exercise before bigger ones. Changing your mindset is a decision of constantly reminding yourself of the goals you want to achieve and the things you need to do to attain them.
