I don’t know about you but I know within me that there are moments when I had to make very tough decisions and I felt defeated. Sometimes you would wish that it is a dream so that you would not have to make those decisions. The truth is everything about life entails decisions. The cloth you will wear to work, your choice of car, your choice of a spouse, your career path and other important decisions in life. The truth is the older you get, the more decisions you would have to make. I don’t know about you but personally, I have once wished to become a baby again where I do not need to make decisions. Any decision you make either makes you or destroys you, that is why you need to be very careful in making decisions, especially the ones that determine your future. Many are decisions that we have to make but there are very important ones which include: who to marry, career path and where we want to live permanently till death comes. I have not seen people worry much about the food to choose or the cloth to buy, it is usually these three things that I aforementioned. Well, when at the crossroads, you need to consider doing the following:
Firstly, you need to write down your aim. How do you want your life to be in the next five years or less? How you view your future helps you know what to start working with or where to begin from in making the decision. For example, you want to marry a god-fearing person, hardworking and a smart person. These are very good, nonmaterialistic feature to look out for in a person you want to be with. Maybe you want a smart person because you want someone you can have quality conversations with. Maybe you want a god-fearing person because you want someone you can share your faith with and eventually share it with the children that you will give birth to.

Because you have pictured your future to be like this, it will direct you into knowing who to choose. I would say that in making tough decisions, you need to find out what you really want in life because it will be harder if you do not know what you want. Knowing what you want, gives you a goal. Everything in life is practical, if you want to meet educated and rich people, go to places where such people can be found. You can’t want a god-fearing person and expect to meet him/her at the club. The chances of meeting a god-fearing person at the club is less than 10%. So know what you want and put yourself in positions where you can get them. Imagine yourself in the future and work towards getting that future. Work and faith go together.
Secondly, weigh the pros and cons. In secondary school, my government teacher would always say that anything that has advantages will always have disadvantages. You can’t expect to just get the sweet part of life and leave the bitter part. Life is sweet and bitter at the same time but we can minimise the bitterness based on the choices we make.

You would make better decisions if you are well informed. Don’t be part of the people that say, “I was naive and I didn’t know.” You can run away from making such statements if you can just learn. There are thousands of books that you can read to improve your knowledge. If you want to be a successful business man, get books on business and read, learn business strategies from people who have succeeded. I listen to Myles Munroe a lot even though he is late now and I realised the secret to his unending wisdom before he died. He said that he reads at least one book every week. The holy bible said that when we seek, we shall find and it is very true. Whatever we search for, we will surely find it, we just need to search deeper. Don’t be the type that loose hope after one search. So before making a tough decision or any important decision, find out the pros and cons. If the advantages are bigger than the disadvantages, you may consider going for it but if the disadvantages are outrageous, you may need to find another plan. Let’s say you want to study medicine and you can afford it, you can go for it but if you cannot afford it and cannot get financial aid for it, you may have to consider another related course that you can afford. Apart from the money involved, studying medicine requires you spending 6-8 years in the university depending on the country. Are you willing to spend that amount of your life studying or would you prefer studying a 4 years course and then graduate to start working? So you must check every angles to the decision you want to make and see if it is worth making. Before starting a business, see if the risk is worth it. Loose the mindset of I have to fail before I can get it right. You can get it right the first time without failing, you just need to learn from others and read books to broaden your knowledge in different spheres of life including relationships.
Thirdly, ask questions. An igbo adage says, “anyone who asks, will never loose his way.” There are things you can get clarity on within 5 minutes by just asking questions instead of spending 2-4 hours studying it from a book or doing experiments.

There is nothing new under the sun, most of the decisions you are about to make, someone has made them before you and so this person knows the pros and cons. If you are opportune to have someone that has done what you are about to do, you can ask the person to be well informed. Every success has a secret, for a couple to have a successful marriage, there is something the couple is doing. For a student to graduate with first class honours, there must be something he did differently. So I strongly advice that you invest into your life. If you need to pay to attend that seminar and you are sure that you will learn a lot from it, please pay.
Lastly, allow time. Do not rush into anything that you do not have conviction for. Any important decision that you need to make, should not be made in a rush.

There is a lot that time does for us that we can’t comprehend, it is a mystery beyond human understanding, that only God can explain. The holy bible says that God makes everything perfect in its time. Sometimes, allow time to clear the pathway and you will be able to see close enough to choose. I also pray to God for clarity and I think you should consider doing the same if you believe.
