Unlocking Your Hidden Potential

My daddy was a very wealthy man but life happened. He had an accident that took all he had. He lost one arm and one leg but he never stopped being a father. After several months in the hospital, he came out and had to start life from the beginning. He didn’t resort to becoming a beggar like most people in the same condition as him did. He sold some of his assets and started another business, electronics business. I saw my daddy drive with one hand and one foot. He is the strongest man I have ever met. He trained a lot of people in business. After my dad died, I said to myself, “he fulfilled purpose, at least he died empty.” when a man dies, don’t look at his age, look at what he has done and then answer if he died right or not.

The first question I need you to ask yourself today is, “Why was I born?” You know during sexual intercourse, a man ejaculates and millions of sperms are released. Out of these sperms, one gets to the egg of the woman and you are formed. You being born today means that there is something you carry that the world needs to see. Do you know the wealthiest place on earth? Could it be china because of their innovations or America or Japan or could it be the lands filled with mineral resources in Africa? The richest place on earth according to Myles Munroe is the cemetery because there are so many songs not sung, many poems and books not written, many skills not brought to light and many business ideas not actualised. If only we can start using those ideas, then we can die empty and reduce the wealth in the cemetery.

What is potential?

I want to ask us, do you know what the wealth in the cemetery is called? it is called potential. Potential is a dormant ability, an untapped power or a hidden strength. You can also say that potential is unused success or unused talent.

If you can sing, it is high time you started composing those songs. Some of you can draw, paint and you are very creative but only you know what you can do. You are still hiding it from the world. Potential is all you can become but you haven’t become it yet. Potential is who you really are but no one knows it yet. I want you to take note that what ever you have done is no longer your potential. Potential is always what you haven’t done yet but you can still do. Potential is what you can accomplish but you haven’t accomplished yet. Once you have done something, it is no longer your potential. Don’t stop at what you have done because you can do more.

Your greatest enemy.

The greatest enemy of your progress is your last success. You know why? Because you feel fulfilled and then you stop tapping from your potential. “I have all I need and therefore I don’t need to create new ideas”. When thoughts like that begin to fill you, you will start failing because your efforts have been reduced. You should understand that your potential is not for you alone. Most times, that idea that you have locked within you is to help the next set of human beings or your community or a country or even the world at large. The phone you are using today was someone’s idea. The houses you see, the water closest, the tarred roads, schools, words, books, songs, electronic devices and others were someone’s idea.

My question for you today is, what is/are your idea/ideas? What potential have you hidden inside you?

Back then when I was in Nigeria, I wanted to study abroad but my parents could not afford it and so I thought of scholarships. I had my browsing phone and so I started searching for scholarships. Without assistance, I applied to as many scholarships as possible and I visited the cyber cafe countless times. I was awarded one of the scholarships I applied for and I’m glad my hard work paid off. It was hard doing all of that by myself but I got to realise that God was preparing me for something great. After I came to Russia, so many people on my social media wanted to know how I did it. They asked questions like: How did you do it? Did you use an agent? How much did it cost you? From all of these, an idea came to me and so I started an educational Youtube Channel. Some people have gotten scholarships and other educative information through my Youtube videos. I also started a blog which you are on right now. So it is important that you show your light to the world because if you don’t produce, no one will buy from you.

I have always known that I can write creatively but all those potentials hid within me until I made a step to let them out. I don’t know the step that you need to make in order to get somewhere, you need to think deep and find out that one thing that you can do best.

Keep creating

That iPhone that you are using today was someone’s idea and it keeps changing. New models keep coming out. The kind of houses we see today are not the same kind of houses we saw 20 years ago. New designs are out. So many songs, books, movies are being produced. They were someone’s idea. Everyone has potential. Potential is a product of purpose. You are created for a purpose and you were given the potential to fulfil those purposes. Some of you, your cooking is out of this world. So delicious and soothing to the eyes that see it. I have seen food being decorated and I marvel at the creativity. If you are not hungry, just seeing the way the food was decorated will make you want to eat.

Don’t wait till you graduate before you start doing something else. Start now. It must not be big, you can start little. Every journey begins with a step.

Most of us just want to graduate and get the job of our dreams. That is good but how long do you want to work for someone else? How long do you want to depend on a monthly salary? How long do you want to keep hiding those potentials of yours? One of the things that holds us back is lack of self confidence, or feeling that we are not good enough. You will never know how good you are until you try. And you won’t grow from level one to level ten if you don’t practise. The iPhone company started with iPhone 4 which had a big charging port, later they made iPhone 5 and now iPhone 13. If you check the genealogy of iPhone, you will see that they kept becoming better and better. So my dear you need to start practising now.

Are you a writer? start with short articles or stories. You might make grammatical errors but do not quit. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was rejected so many times before she got her first book published. She has travelled around the world and her books are read across nations.

You can be the next tech guru, the next best author, the next best lawyer, the gifted hands in medicine, the next innovator, the next motivational speaker that the world needs to see and know.

Let those potentials of yours out of the bag and let the journey begin.
