Success is what we make it to be. My success story will always be different from yours. My success story could be that I built a house, and that is all I ever wanted. Or my success story could be that I want to make tangible impacts in the lives of others. Whatever you name your success, it is worth achieving. No success is too small or too big; in the end, we just need to be remembered for something. Continue reading as you learn the keys to success.
Have a mission. You cannot be the next president of Nigeria if you don’t dream or desire it. Having a mission keeps you focused. I am a doctor today because I desired it. The inventor of electric bulbs that we both enjoy today had a mission, and he saw it through. The universe has a way of bringing us closer to what we desire; all we need to do is think it, pursue it and achieve it.
Get the skills. It is not enough to dream. Anyone can just dream but end up achieving nothing. If you have a dream, you must acquire the skills and resources to actualize your dream. It does not matter how long it takes to build the resources or acquire the skills you need; what matters is the result. We know truly well that Rome was not built in a day, hence, you must take it one step at a time in acquiring skills. To acquire any skill and succeed in it, you must have interest. If you want to be a good business man, read about business, find a mentor and learn from them. If you want to be a dashing lawyer, then get into law school and become the best lawyer that you can be. Once you acquire the skills, you are at the peak of achieving your dreams.

Have grit. Life is not a bed of roses; some days are good and some days are bad. Do not let the bad days sway you away from what you want to achieve. You might want to get into law school, but you failed the entrance exam. Do not quit because you failed; instead, gather motivation to try again. It is easier said than done, but as someone who failed a major board exam in my medical career but passed later, I am in a good position to tell you to keep trying till you get there. Find out why you failed and then restrategise to try again. You want to get into the media as a public speaker, but you keep getting rejections. Keep boosting your CV until you get that job. I once listened to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and her story is a big motivation to me. She would not have been the famous author that she is today if she had given up some years ago. Her first book was rejected 25 times before she got a yes.
Every success story has obstacles, embrace those obstacles as they come but do not let them defeat you. These obstacles are what make your success story interesting when you tell it to others. Remember this – NEVER STOP TRYING.
