The Grass is Not Greener on the Other Side

We often admire good things, forgetting that nothing good comes easy. For my grass to be green, I need to keep watering it and making sure that nothing is blocking it from getting enough sunlight. Have you been to a farm and observe the crops? You tilt the ground, make ridges, and plant the seed. If there is no water or sunlight, the seed will not germinate and it will end up getting destroyed underground. So when there is no rainfall, the farmers use artificial irrigation for their crops, few months later, you see the seed transform into a beautiful crop that you can get to harvest later. If it takes all that hardwork to produce food from a seed, what makes you think that you don’t need to work in other to succeed in something?

There are tones of things on earth that we all want to succeed in: marriage, school, career, relationships, leadership and others. To succeed in something you must be ready to put in the work and keep trying no matter how many times you fail.

Do you want to excel in your career, develop your skills. Be someone who is not easily replaceable. Be a multiplier and not a subtracter. How can you develop your skills? You can do that that by first knowing what you are so good at, look for people who are already in that field and learn from them. Most things are digital these days, you can watch videos online to learn, you can be an apprentice and learn from the men/women in your field. Rome was not built in a day, you must have an inquisitive mindset. Ask questions, make research, find out why it is like this and not like that. When your mentors realise that you are someone who is humble and ready to learn, they will teach you all that they know.

There is nothing new under the sun, that thing that you want to do, there is someone that must have done it and succeeded, so find out about that person and learn. Once you develop your skills, then you can begin to make your own innovations and someday have people that would want to learn from you. Don’t just sit and admire people who have already watered their grass to get to where they are today, water yours and you will see yourself succeeding as well.

Romantic relationship is a part of life that we will all one day aspire to be in. As one grows and matures, you start having that identity of self and who you are. Your friendship circle reduces, you move out of your parent’s home, you seek your own independence and you will at some point want to share your life with someone. A person to come home to, share your joy and burdens with. A shoulder to lean on and a person to start your own family with.

Relationship is so fragile that if not worked on, it can easily get messy and and filled with regrets. That is why you need to water your relation. Just as the crops need water and sunlight to sprout out to be able to produce the maize or rice you eat, so is how your relationship needs a lot of work to be joyful. We admire couples who are successful in their relationships or marriages but we do not know how they managed to be so happy in their relationship. The grass is not greener on the other side, you need to water your own so that the greenness will shine out. The same way you pass through trainings in order in be a doctor or a lawyer is the same way you need to train yourself in order to be successful in your relationships. You can read books about how to build a successful relationship, you can attend relationship seminars, you can observe couples around you and what they have done or still doing to make their relationship work. There is no relationship without issues but how you handle your issues is what makes your relationship good or bad.

As a student in the university, it is possible to come out with good grades like first class and second class. University is not like secondary or primary school, where the teachers do most of the works for you. In the university, you are expected to do most of the works yourself, there is no one to chase you around and remind you of class or why you didn’t do your assignment. In other words, you must have grit and aspire to come out with good grades.

To graduate with good grades, you must attend all classes, study ahead of time before exams, have a study group, ask questions in class and try to participate in school clubs (example research clubs, sport clubs etc), attend conferences as well. If you want to be like your friend or a senior colleague who is performing so well in his/her academics, then you must be willing to put in the work.

Do you see someone who is skilled in their work, they will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank. Make yourself so irreplaceable in your line of work so that nations will hear of you and seek your services. Be an outstanding student so that lecturers will always use you as an example to other students. Gather all the knowledge you need for a successful relationship, so that you will make your relationship an admirable one. Everything good comes with a lot of hardwork. A lot of intentionality is needed to keep succeeding. Don’t just work hard, work smart as well.
